Buckwheat with just water is very flat tasting. However, I add a little Erythritol, milk, peanut butter (for extra protein) & some raisins & it's quite delicious! It takes longer to cook than oatmeal but it also has a nuttier, somewhat "crunchier" taste w/o actually being crunchy. This is my new "go to" breakfast cereal!
I love that I can order this from iHerb and have it arrive to my door! I make Buckwheat fresh every day! I soak it a few hours or over night, rinse it well, spread it out over the surface of a frying pan. Let it sit for a day and it sprouts so easily!!!!! Then I cook it in water to have instead of rice for dinner. Buckwheat is an easily digested protein and very low on the glycemic index. Some days I add butter and sea salt and dry roast the buckwheat on the frying pan. W0w! what a snack food this is! Crunchy and addicting!!!!!!
This buckwheat is so good, it'll make you forget all about your other grains. It's made with organic ingredients, so you can feel good about eating it. And it's so versatile, you can use it in everything from pancakes to salads. Plus, the package arrived in perfect condition, so I am so satisfied with this amazing thing.
The five stars is the Bob's Red Mill - I never tried buckwheat but I am trying to use more gluten free grains and this is one I am going to try. I am giving the five stars for Bob's - so if you want to try buckwheat, try this brand. UPDATE: Tried the buckwheat with my husband and it's worthy of 5 stars - we both enjoyed it.
In my opinion, Bob's Red Mill Buckwheat has the highest quality ingredient of other brands that I have used in the past, with a delicious taste jammed into every package! I use it as a side dish in many of my favorite veggie recipe dishes, which ends in doubling the original serving size on the package. Never any rock pieces or sand, nothing but 100% pure organically grown buckwheat!
I heard on a podcast that buckwheat was very very healthy for you. So I checked this out with NOW foods and got a very nice looking bag, which was easy to open, tasted great ( I mixed it with 2 other grains just to be sassy. It was has great earthy flavor, very warming. Easy to make as well. I soaked the grains, because the same podcast said it makes grains (and beans) easier to digest. And I found that it helped the taste of not only this, but also the other grains you can consume. NOW foods I thought was only a vitamin company, but now I realize they also do foodstuffs very well. Great quality company I'd say. Package arrived quickly from iHerb, which is always impressive.
I'm glad to see it's available at iHerb, it's not easy to find it locally. I try to eat it at least once a week as it has many health benefits, and it's delicious at the same time! I like to toast it before cooking until it becomes light to medium brown in color. It could be a base for many healthy meals and good for people of all ages. The quality is very good. Will buy again soon.
